Bob Geldof and the Boomtown Rats have cancelled their remaining Australian tour dates, following poor ticket sales.
Concerts at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on May 23 and at the Challenge Stadium in Perth two days later will no longer go ahead.
Last month, gigs in Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne were cancelled, while the Sydney show was moved from the Entertainment Centre to the Enmore.
Bob Geldof visited Australia in March to promote the tour and even participated in the St Patrick’s Day parade in Perth.
Promoters DownUnder Events said it would not be “financially viable” to go ahead with the remaining shows, in Sydney and Perth.
“Regrettably, the Enmore Theatre and Perth concerts are now cancelled due to poor ticket sales,” DownUnder’s Michael Pember confirmed.
“Unfortunately public support has been extremely disappointing and based on these sales, it would not be financially viable to proceed.
“We have exhausted all avenues to promote and sell tickets to these concerts through significant effort and great expense. Please accept our sincere apologies as we are shattered by this outcome as it was never anticipated when we engaged The Boomtown Rats for this Australian tour,” he said.
He said Ticketek will contact Enmore ticket-holders and Ticketmaster will contact those in Perth.
